NewsCatcher Launches NewsMCP: Free News Search for AI Agents

Free keyless access with no signup. Five tools return one clustered record per story instead of dozens of near-identical article links

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, September 7, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- NewsCatcher today launched NewsMCP, a news MCP server that gives AI agents live news as deduplicated story events rather than article links. It is free to use, with no account required.

When an AI assistant is asked about current events, it typically runs a web search and receives dozens of links describing the same story. The model then spends its limited context window reading near-identical coverage. NewsMCP changes the unit of retrieval: every outlet covering the same story is clustered into a single event with citations, so an agent reads one record instead of thirty.

Each event carries a count of how many newsrooms reported the story independently, with syndicated reprints excluded, giving agents a corroboration signal they can use to weigh how widely a claim has actually been reported.

"An API and an MCP server look like the same problem, and they aren't," said Artem Bugara, Co-founder of NewsCatcher. "An API serves a pipeline, where large payloads and full article text are features, because your code parses what it needs. An MCP server serves a language model mid-conversation, where every token in the response competes with everything else in its context. Same data, opposite constraints. So we didn't wrap our existing News API. We built a separate product from the question of what a model actually needs to answer a news question."

NewsMCP provides five read-only tools: news for searching story events, get_story for expanding one, check_coverage for assessing how widely a claim has been reported, and check_limits and check_health for diagnostics. Article body text is never returned; agents follow a source link when they need the full piece.

The service works without registration. The keyless tier allows 20 calls per hour, a seven-day lookback and 20 stories per call. A free API key extends this to 50 calls per hour, a fourteen-day lookback and 50 stories per call. Commercial use is permitted on every tier, including keyless.

NewsMCP is available now at newsmcp.com, with a browser-based playground requiring no account, one-step setup for Claude Code and Cursor, and a REST interface for agents not using MCP.

About NewsMCP
NewsMCP is a read-only news service for AI agents, built on the Model Context Protocol. It returns clustered story events with citations and independent-newsroom counts, designed for use inside an agent's context window rather than a production data pipeline.
