“We’ve seen that when you match the screen size, pressure settings, and backwash logic to the debris profile, everything stabilizes”
— Dan Flanick, Tekleen Chief Revenue Officer
SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA, UNITED STATES, October 10, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Tekleen Automatic Filters, LLC announced a new push to help industrial and municipal facilities reduce water waste by engineering filtration systems to match the quality and behavior of their incoming water sources.

From cooling towers and manufacturing plants to municipal supply networks, water conditions can vary widely. Surface water may carry algae and seasonal debris, groundwater often contains fines and minerals, and reclaimed streams fluctuate in quality from shift to shift. Even municipal supplies can deliver intermittent solids that clog nozzles and erode pumps.

“Most facilities treat all water the same, and it’s costing them,” said Dan Flanick, Tekleen Chief Revenue Officer. “When filtration isn’t aligned to the actual water quality, operators see higher energy use, more unplanned downtime, and unnecessary water loss. The smarter way is to engineer filtration at the point of entry based on what’s really in the water.”

Flanick added that source-specific filtration gives operators more control over performance and costs. “We’ve seen that when you match the screen size, pressure settings, and backwash logic to the debris profile, everything stabilizes,” he said. “Water stays in service longer, pumps run cleaner, and maintenance teams spend less time firefighting and more time optimizing.”

Industry data shows there is significant room for improvement. The World Bank estimates that water reuse accounts for just 12 percent of municipal freshwater withdrawals and around 3 percent of potable and industrial use. According to UN-Water, only 38 percent of industrial wastewater is treated and just 27 percent is safely treated.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program notes that controlling particulates is key to maintaining higher cycles of concentration in cooling towers, which can cut makeup water demand and blowdown volumes dramatically. Research also shows that self-cleaning screen filters require fewer backwash events than disc filters and use less water during cleaning, keeping more water available for productive use.

Tekleen’s fully automatic self-cleaning water filters maintain continuous flow during cleaning cycles, reduce manual intervention, and can be configured to process from hundreds to over 20,000 gallons per minute. Optional dewatering modules enable operators to capture and reuse backwash water where appropriate.

“Facilities are under pressure to do more with less,” said Flanick. “Our role is to give them a solution that protects their equipment, reduces operating costs, and helps them meet aggressive water-reduction targets. This isn’t just about filtration—it’s about operational resilience.”
